Abstract

The antibacterial activity of Oxystelma esculentum  leaf and stem extract is examining by plate hole diffusion assay using ethanol, ethyl acetate, acetone, and chloroform and petroleum ether against various human pathogenic bacteria. For reference control Chloramphenicol is used as the standard antibiotic. The present investigation results ethanol, ethyl acetate and acetone leaf and stem extract exhibits highest inhibitory efficiency on many of the tested organisms among the five solvents used. In petroleum ether leaf extracts didn’t show any inhibitory effect against all the tested organisms.
