Antimicrobial Screening of Andrographis Echioides (L.) Nees against Human Pathogenic Bacteria and Fungi
Abstract
The antimicrobial activity of various solvent crude extracts of Andrographis echioides (L.) Nees was studied against different human pathogens. The experimental investigated against different human pathogens includes gram positive, gram negative and fungal by agar well diffusion method. The ethanol leaf and stem extracts of A. echioides showed highest activity against all the tested human pathogens includes both bacteria and fungi, which is compare to the standard antibiotic drugs. Similarly, the methanol, acetone and ethyl acetate leaf and stem extracts had a broader spectrum of antibacterial activities compared to chloroform, petroleum ether, and aqueous extracts. Whereas, the both leaf and stem all the solvent extracts have no activity against Aspergillus niger. According to the present investigation support the traditional use of plant against human pathogens infections, which could potentially be exploited for the treatment of human infections
